F1 in Spa, has it exposed this regulations worst?

While conversations about these regulations have seemingly started to die down, Spa made sure that we wouldn't forget the many issues that are still very prominent in the sport.

issues with engines and batteries plagued many this weekend, including Oscar Piastri and George Russell, who each sustained massive gaps to their respective teammates throughout the weekend.

For Russell, however, these issues struct him the worst with deployment and recharge issues ruining his lap times, especially in sector 3, where his deficit to his teammate increased to over 3 tenths.

During the race, however, Russell was striken with battery issues even out of the first corner, as seen in this photo below, Russell's recharge light came on right out of the first corner, and also indicated that his battery is not at the full 350kw but instead was running sub-optimally.

In this photo, the third car, Russell, is the only car with the rear lights illuminating, indicating his power deficit to the cars around him. This eventually led to him being behind on the Kemmel straight and ultimately led to him being taken out of the race by his former teammate Lewis Hamilton.

In an uncensored radio message, George was furious with his team, saying:

"What the f*** happened with the SoC [State of Charge] down the straight? I had no f***ing battery down the straight! Guys, unacceptable. Un-f***ing-acceptable this whole weekend."

It seems more engine and battery issues are holding Russell back from his title charge, though it may not be all to blame.

I will stand by my argument that these regulations are the best for wheel-to-wheel racing that we've had in a long time.

We had some overtakes that could contend for overtake of the year, like Verstappen on Antonelli through Eau-Rouge, or Colapinto on Lawson and Gasly down Kemmel, there were very class overtakes that exemplified the talent of the current field.

This should be the last race where Aston Martin are 5 seconds of the pace with an expected B-spec car to come in Hungary next week, so there are definitely high hopes for that, but we'll see how it goes. I'm not expecting a McLaren 2023 where they just jump to the top of the grid, it's going to take time as they sort out all of their issues.

However, many have called this title battle wrapped up, but oyu can never say its wrapped up until it is literally wrapped up. Anything can happen, just ask Piastri how last season went.
