F1 Silverstone is always a banger, this year wasn't an exception

This weekend at Silverstone was not one to forget with championship implications and a fall-flat finish.

This was a sprint weekend, which only added to the very very very clustered schedule of F3, F2, F1 Academy, and F1. However, I actually think that a sprint around Silverstone worked very well. The way the circuit works means that battery management was the leading factor in overtakes, which led to the first couple of laps the drivers had to figure that all out and there were overtakes after overtakes and it was actually really exciting.

And of course it was Antonelli who took the win over Hamilton on his home turf to extend his lead over Russell to 43 points.

A bad start from Antonelli allowed the Ferraris to get up into the top two positions in the main race, however Antonelli got past Hamilton and set his sights on Leclerc.

I feel that in the first stint Mercedes left Antonelli out too late, and should have brought him in a couple laps earlier, because he still would've had a tyre advantage and superior pace, but with much less chasing. Leclerc was able to eat into his advantage at the start of his second stint, accumulating in added pressure for Antonelli.

In the end it wasn't worth anything, as a mechanical issue hampered the aero flow on the front right suspension of Antonelli's Mercedes, losing him loads of time and adding an extra pit stop to his race.

Also towards the end of the race, Verstappen had another rear wing failure and spun out of second position at stowe, raising concerns and public discourse over the safety of active aero and specifically the safety of macarena style wings seen on the Ferrari and Red Bull cars.

Verstappen's crash caused a safety car that was looking to lead to a last lap shootout for the win, second, third, and just about every position in the world. It never came to be, however, because race control made a mistake and sent the "safety car in this lap" message by accident and got everyone hyped for nothing.

In the end it was a great race, and I really like how these new generation of cars are, racing wise, because the racing we've been seeing all season is pure class and it's awesome. As always, excited for the next one in Spa.
